Pragmatism represented an approach prioritizing practicality, benefiting educators and students. Educators employed dynamic, project-based learning techniques, focusing on topics relevant to students' daily experiences. However, there was a research gap regarding this approach's impact on teaching Araling Panlipunan 10.
To address this gap, a study aimed to create a lesson guide for teaching Araling Panlipunan to grade 10 students, enhancing their knowledge and skills. The objectives included assessing academic performance through pre-tests and post-tests, identifying significant differences, evaluating the pragmatic approach's effect, exploring the experimental group's experiences, and developing a lesson guide. The study used a quasi-experimental method, with descriptive quantitative and qualitative approaches, involving 60 grade 10 students from Pinagbayanan Integrated National High School, divided into control and experimental groups, with the latter receiving pragmatic teaching.
Data collection included questionnaires, interviews, and tests, analyzed using statistical tools such as Frequency and Percentage Analysis, Dependent and Independent T-tests, and Thematic Analysis. Findings revealed generally low pre-test scores but significant post-test improvements in the experimental group, indicating the pragmatic approach positively affected students' grades. The experimental group's experiences highlighted the effectiveness of pragmatic teaching in creating an engaging and applicable learning environment despite initial challenges. The contextualized lesson guide outlined objectives, content, outcomes, and student learning, integrating pragmatism into teaching.
Recommendations included DEPED integrating pragmatic methods into the Araling Panlipunan curriculum, providing teacher training, allocating resources for interactive tools, encouraging collaborative learning, and using the contextualized lesson guide in classrooms.
